THE 24th ASIAN ASSOCIATION OF OPEN UNIVERSITIES ANNUAL CONFERENCE
|
Dear distinguished colleagues and friends,
Warm greetings and welcome you to 24th Asian Association of Open Universities (AAOU) Annual Conference, Hanoi, Vietnam, 2010.
On behalf of Organizing Committee of the Annual Conference, I am pleased and honored to announce that the 24th AAOU Annual Conference will be hosted by Hanoi Open University (HOU), under the direction of Vietnam Ministry of Education and Training from 26th to 28th of October, 2010 in Hanoi City, Vietnam.
The theme of the Annual Conference is “Open Distance Learning Towards Building Sustainable Global Learning Communities”. Reflecting that Open Distance Learning, an innovative approach to education, is becoming more popular in the Asian region and the world, building and sustaining ODL communities, in Asia, should be seen as effective strategy for improving personal capabilities and institutional capacities. In taking these thoughts further, the 24th Asian Association of Open University Annual Conference aims (i) to find the solutions for building sustainable learning communities through ODL, (ii) to provide a forum for education co-operations and knowledge transfer, (iii) to bring into full play the effectiveness of implementation of ODL.
As President of Host University, I would like to extend my warmest welcome to all scholars, presidents, researchers and policy-makers working on this field and interested in this theme to participate in the conference.
The 24th AAOU Annual Conference will provide a broad and rational platform for the educators and the friends from all social sectors who are engaged in ODL.
In order to realize and bring the theme to life, this conference will focus on following five basic aspects: Ideology and Philosophy; Partnership and Communication; Methodology and Technology; Sustainability, Access, Equity and Quality; Opportunities and Challenges.
I believe that 2010 AAOU Conference will be a meaningful session for all participants from Asian region as well as from other parts of the world to exchange ideas and experience of ODL.
October is also of significant month when Hanoi, our capital, holds a great ceremony to celebrate its 1000th anniversary. This is a cannot-miss event! We hope our participants and guests enjoy their trips to Vietnam with a better understanding of our beautiful landscape, people, culture and history. While there is much important work to do at the 24th AAOU Annual Conference, please arrange your post-conference time to take part in an optional trip either to the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Ha Long Bay or to Hoi An ancient town.
I hereby, on behalf of the Conference Organizing Committee, as well as my colleagues and 65.000 students at Hanoi Open University, would like to invite all the members of the AAOU and friends who are interested in the theme of 24th AAOU Annual Conference to attend this year significant meeting. We are looking forward to your suggestions and research results to be shared and spread around the world.
